Mental Health & the LGBT community | Drawing UnitedHaving struggled with my own mental health before coming out aged 20, I know from my own experience how important it is to get access to support.

Evidence both from the UK and internationally highlights increased levels of common mental health problems, such as depression, anxiety and stress among people from the LGBTQ+ community.

I am passionate about doing work that makes the world a better and more inclusive place. Through my artwork, I also like to highlight individuals who are actively working towards the same goals.

Whilst significant progress has been made over the last number of years, there is an uneasy feeling that we are at a tipping point, slowly starting to slide backwards.

“Many LGBTQ+ people still face discrimination in the UK while some are too scared to come out to members of their own family. The impact of these ordeals on a person’s mental health can be detrimental.

That’s why I am supporting the vital work of Mind Out. The Brighton based charity provide mental health services and support wellbeing in LGBTQ communities. It is run by and for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans, and Queer people.

“Gentleman Jack” is a portrait of Suranne Jones as Anne Lister (known as the “first modern lesbian”) from the BBC TV show Gentleman Jack.

The phrase ‘I rise above it’ is written across the piece in her own code which she used in her diaries.”

Terms & conditions

Use the form below and pledge any amount you wish. You will only get asked to honour it should the campaign succeed within the given timeframe.

A post-email campaign will be sent either way that will guide you the next step.

For transparency purposes, all pledgers are asked to allow their identity and the amount pledged to be published on the website along the time and date at the time of the submission.

But remember, the artwork will be given away to the most generous pledger!

Drawing United will collect the pledges via this website and will make a donation from the chosen charity website.

Donation receipt will be made public via the site and/or social media channels.

We will also, when possible, ask the chosen charity to acknowledge receipt of the donation via their preferred way of doing so.

If the target fails to be hit within the given timeframe, none of the submitted pledges will be asked to be honoured and the campaign will be terminated

However, the featured artwork will be up for sale - at the indicated price above - and all of part of the sale will be given to the chosen charity.

In the event where two or several people are tied to win the artwork - ie they all pledged the same amount which is the highest across the board, whoever will have submitted his/her pledge first will take the prize.

The winner must honour his pledge to receive the prize.

An A4 digital print of a 'surprise' artwork will also be won by the 2nd and 3rd highest pledger while the 4th and 5th will take home an in-house screen printed Drawing United Tote bag!

The same 'first pledged, win' rule applies as per the top prize.
